Thanksgiving is tomorrow. What are you thankful for? A lot of times we don’t sit around and think about what we’re thankful for until around the time of thanksgiving. One of the Christian music radio stations here in the Grand Rapids area has been having Gratitude-Tuesday and Thankful Thursday for the month of November. People have been posting on their Facebook pages each day in November about what they’re thankful for. All good to tell the truth. But there’s something missing though.
There is a need for thankful hallelujahs all year round. When we only focus one day, or even just one month out of the year to be thankful, we seem to miss the boat. There is a need to live a life of thankfulness all year round. Each day should be a day to be thankful. Now, this might seem like a giant Jesus juke, but it isn’t. I’m not trying to take something and move it to a new direction about Jesus. What I am wanting to do is to make you think about having thankful hallelujahs all year round.
What are thankful hallelujahs? These are songs of praises and thanksgiving we give to God each day. We tend to go through life looking at the negatives. We tend to go through life looking at what we don’t have. We look at things from the perspective of the fact that we can do it on our own. That we can live it on our own. A thankful hallelujah is thanking God for blessings us with what we have.
We have fingers that can fing. We have clothes on our back. We have hair on our heads (well most of us anyway). We have technology that helps us stay in touch with family and friends miles away. We have so much to be thankful for.
Sarah Young in her daily devotional Jesus Calling says for November 27
“Let thankfulness rule in your in your heart.”
Have you ever thought about that? How can thankfulness rule in your heart. Not just during November, not just on a Thursday in November but each and every day? This is where thankful hallelujahs come in.
Hallelujah means “Praise the Lord.” How can you in thankfulness praise the Lord today? How can you praise the Lord in thankfulness in March?
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:4-6
How can you live a life rejoicing to God? How can you live each day with thankful hallelujahs?
This Thanksgiving, amongst the turkey and the mashed potatoes and all the stuffing and family and the Lions losing at football, take time to live thankfully. Live a life of thanksgiving, live thankful hallelujahs not just tomorrow but every day.
